Hail Caesar

After spending so much time with the Soviets it was time for a different army, Hail Caesar! It has been a long time since I last played and it was a lot of fun.  Here is my Dacian army. Not fully painted but I will rectify that.

There were four of us playing. I teamed up with Ben and he was playing the Macedonians. On the other side was Vince playing the Spartans and Tom with his Romans. Here was our side of the table.

By round two the Spartans had routed my cavalry. But the Dacians are many and tenacious  and the infantry kept pounding away at the Spartans.

The Macedonia cavalry rolled a blunder and they turned and fled the field almost running off the board.

The pikemen look pretty fearsome.

After many failed leadership rolls I think it took close to two hours before the Romans and Macedonians got into combat.

It didn't bode well for the Romans who were dropping like flies and eventually fled the field. The Spartans had the upper had early in the game and it was hard to tell when the tide turned but eventually the Dacians wore the Spartans down and won the day.

I'm done. Third company finished. Soviet infantry...done. Here is what the whole list looks like.

Here is one stand from each company. I painted the bases different colors so I can tell them apart when they are on the table.

I finished off the painting portion of the last company. Now I add the wash, mount and base them and I am all done. Woo hoo!

I have an assembly line approach to painting minis. First I paint all the flesh, then move out. Like shirts, then coats, hats and so on. With these Soviets I am painting them bare bones. There are a lot of them and I don't play a Soviet list. My son ordered all these a while back when he wanted to flood the table with Soviets.

I first sprayed all the minis with a khaki spray paint. Next I added flesh, then painted helmets. Now I just did the boots. Guns next and then I'll add the wash. Any mistakes I make are left. I'm not going back to touch up.

Finished all the flesh for the last company. Onward to the helmets.

I finished up the second Soviet company. One more to go. The last picture is what I have so far for my Soviet infantry list. Up front is the company commander, 2IC, Komissar and sniper. Behind is green company and blue company.

My hobby club is going to do a Flames of War Stalingrad big game. We have a lack of Soviet players and my son has more than enough soviet models that we can both play so I volunteered. Problem is most of his Soviet infantry is not painted. So know I am knee deep in painting Soviet infantry. My list has three campaniles with two platoons each. That is 54 stands with 4 figures each. (I know Soviet stands should have 5 figures each, but I have to draw the line somewhere)

I have the first of the three companies done.

Mordheim Fences

Here are some fences I made for Mordheim. I went the long route and hand cut thin strips of wood from a 1" x 2". When I showed them to a friend he asked if they were Popsicle sticks. No, that would have been too smart.

I started building terrain for Mordheim. This is the first of six pieces. I want to build them so they can be put together any which way so you don't have to play the same board every time.

So now my son and I are involved with Mordheim. I love this game because it is an RPG. I am playing a Dwarf band. My son is playing Kislevites.

Good news, my Dwarfs are painted.

Bad news, my leader died last week. He was captured and sent to the fight pit where after seven rounds of bitch slapping he finally fell and was defeated.

So a friend at Ordo was looking at my Dacian army list and said I could play onagers. I told him that I spent enough money on minis for now. He then tells me I should make one. The light bulb went off! So here it is, my home made onager.

Pack of Wolves

My son plays 40K, space wolves. He has been doing the base painting and then I touch it up.

I was not happy with this pack of wolves but I kept plugging away and am finally happy with the results.

Division Leaders

I finally, finished the the King, General and all the division leaders. It's not the bestest job ever but considering how many models I need to paint I am happy with them.
