LARP Chest

I made this chest for my son and I to share at LARP. I made a removable center divider in case we need one big chest. It also doubles as a sitting stool in the tent.

More Wands

Here are the five wands I made for LARPing. I tried to make each one a little different. It was more or less an experiment in fun.

The making of a Wand

I decided to make a wand for LARP use. I started with a tree branch and my trusty knife.

I then whittled it down to the shape and size I wanted.

Then refined it a little then stained the handle part.

I added some string to give it more pizazz.

I was really happy with the end result so I decided to make four more. they will all be different from each other.

40K Foam Chainsword - Finished

I finished spraying and weathering the chainsword. I then added a leather handle wrap and called it done. I'm pretty happy with the final result.

40K chainsword masked

I have sprayed the chainsword black. Now for the metallic parts. We found a metallic silver spray paint. I have masked off all the black areas and will commence spraying the silver metallic parts.

40K Skull Gas Mask

Now that the chainsword is in the painting stage it is time to work on the skull covered gas mask. We happened to have a gas mask that we modified a little and with the EVA foam we cut out the skull cover. We are going to add fabric to the gas mask to make it wrap around the head like the minis and then glue on the skull. This is what we have so far.

40K Chainsword Construction Complete

We have finished the construction phase of the chainsword. We think it came out pretty good. It looks a little rough in some spots but our next step is to spray it with plastidip. We have never used it before but it should fill in the rough areas and give the whole sword a nice coating and make it ready to paint.

40K Chainsword

So on to the next project. My son and I are making a 40K chainsword for his cosplay outfit. We decided to use EVA foam, a cosplay standard. This is our first time using EVA foam. The benifit of EVA foam is it is pretty cheap and easy to work with. You can also heat it up and shape it and it will retain it's shape. The chainsword is the first part of the costume.

This is the EVA foam we are using.

Here is the chainsword before we closed it up.

And after we closed it up.

LARP Scribe

My LARP character can scribe and is learning map making. I have a small collections of writing implements. The pen on the far right has a ink cartridge in it. I wrapped some fabric around it to make it look less modern, but that is the best I can do and still have it work.I mostly use that one because the ease of use.

I want to use the metal nib dip pen but I don't like the plastic handle so I decided to make a wooden handle. The stick on the left is my starting point. After some whittling and sanding the handle is done. Now to stain it and add the nib.

This is my first attempt at a 40K vehicle. I'm not sure if I over did it but I think it came out okay.

Juggling Balls

I decided to make juggling balls for LARP. I looked online and found a pattern that I liked. I cut the football shaped piece out of board stock then traced it on old t-shirts from the rag bin.

I then sewed two and a half sides together and then turned it inside out.

Then I cut a yogurt container into shape so I could pour sand into the hole. I saved the sand in this clam shell container and worked on the top area so I wouldn't get sand all over the table.

When they were full I sewed the hole closed. Ready for juggling.
